Amit Singhal, head of Google Search, announces departure

Google’s Senior Vice President of Search, Amit Singhal, has announced that he is leaving the company after 15 years of service. He’s not leaving the company for a competitor though, instead revealing that he wants to “give back to others,” and pursue work in philanthropy. “Things are in amazing shape,” he wrote of the company he is leaving behind. “Search is stronger than ever, and will only get better in the hands of an outstanding set of senior leaders who are already running the show day-to-day.” John Giannandrea, Google’s Vice President of Engineering, will now step into Singhal’s role after he departs on February 26th.

In contrast, just 11% of searches were on desktop, with a further 7% from tablets. Ad-driven searches were at their highest in the first half of the game, and their lowest during half-time. The most-searched-for ads were Audi, Acura, and the trailer for Jason Bourne.

Official representatives get the right to request Knowledge Graph edits

Google will now allow ‘official representatives’ of companies and individuals with Knowledge Graph results to request and suggest edits and updates to content. Users signed into Google accounts linked to the companies and individuals will see a box asking, “Is this info up-to-date?” and explaining, “As an official representative, you can suggest a change.” How can you make sure you have the ability to request changes? Google explains: “To be recognized by Google as an ‘official representative,’ you need to be signed in as an owner of the topic’s official website, YouTube channel, or Google+ page.”
